26 July 2026
The last few months have been a juggling act that has somehow been kind of successful, but not without a few hiccups and dropped balls.
Work is still frantic, but it's slowly starting to calm down. There’s probably another 3 months of drama before it all falls into whatever the new normal will be. But it hasn’t just been work putting pressure on my time and eating my attention. There’s been some family health issues, as well as a pretty crook cat also demanding a lot of time and care (and money). Amidst it all, in typical fashion, I burned out in late May.
Despite the drama, progress continues with my writing, but it has slowed down. In particular, I’ve had to focus solely on the upcoming USV book releases, so I've let some other things pay the price. Notably, the gaps between Patreon USV posts have stretched out a bit, as well as the gaps between blog posts.
Despite the chaos and burnout, I’m still getting words down and now finalising the next release (USV#4: Odin’s Hall).
I can't give a word count update for June as most of the month was reviewing editorial notes for USV#4 and rewriting some chapters. Time on the keyboard was probably half (or perhaps a third) of what I would have preferred. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
Funnily enough, amidst all that chaos, writing (or editing) was not just great to get to, but a wonderful haven. Those hours reminded me very much of why I tell stories.
My next few blog posts are going to be dropped between writing updates, and will touch on a couple of different things. I’ll talk about some writing influences as well as some recent movies and TV that I’ve really enjoyed. I’ll also be aiming to get back to two or three blog posts a month.
Thanks for your patience!
